Former Los Angeles Angles right-hander Kelvim Escobar signs with the Mets with a one year deal worth $1.25 million.Escobar originally came up with the Toronto Blue Jays as a reliever and saved 38 games for the Blue Jays in 2002 before converting to a starter. In 2007, his most recent full season, Escobar went 18-7 with a 3.40 ERA. He missed all of 2008 after shoulder surgery and pitched only five innings last season before another setback shut him down again. He will most probably be in the bullpen setting up his former team mate Francisco Rodriguez. The Mets are getting an essential piece to the puzzle, but they do need to fill in a couple more roles before becoming a championship contender. The Mets according to our sources are closing in on Jason Bay
